Voice-Care-Community

Paul Nelson

My research project throughout the inaugural year of the NSotA was self-reflective and centred around the importance of finding voice, care and community. Whilst primarily drawing on my experience of the foster care system I hoped to deepen my involvement with the Care Experienced community and extend the personal into the wider bio/cultural/political context of trauma and collapsing narratives of progress, safety and security. The tools and artefacts that I produced drew on the acquired skillset and sense of belonging gained through my activism working with the Extinction Rebellion arts group since early 2019 and look to be developed through creative workshops with the care experienced community. The project continues to pose more questions than answers but ultimately attunes to the necessity for care, compassion, community and purpose in navigating our uncertain and precarious futures of climate breakdown.
